Ellicot City Colored School


Jon and I were driving around near Baltimore and ended up in Ellicot City, MD. We came across this little Building with a historical marker saying it was the first public school for Black Children in Howard County. Unfortunately,  They only  offer tours April through October, so we were unable to go inside.

Up the hill from the school was a little Cemetery, or at least several graves. Unfortunately, they were unreadable.

Appomattox Court House

I took a weekend off from work and Jon decided that we were going to go to the Bristol Race in Tennessee. We decided to stay in Roanoke, Virginia which is about two hours from Bristol. We wanted to to visit a few sights while we were in the area and we went to Appomattox Court House, where Lee's Army surrendered at the end of the Civil War.  Courthouse in Appomattox Court House. I learned that the name of the town is Appomattox Court House but nothing actually took place in this building. This is the back of the building. Front of the Courthouse. The Visitors Center is is housed inside. Closer up of the Courthouse Jail Behind the Courthouse but was built after the Civil War. The jail that was there during the war burned down.
