Concert!
So Jon and I haven't had a real date for a little while. We heard one of our favorite bands was coming to Baltimore on October 15th so we looked into getting tickets. Jon's mom, Cheryl told us not to buy tickets because she had a connection with the band. (She cleans house for one of the band member's mom.) So I took the day off of work so that we could go. I decided to make it a date and have dinner too.
I got all dolled up and had Jon come home at four so we could have plenty of time to get up to Baltimore and account for traffic. I wanted steak for dinner so we looked up a place online and decided on Bare Bones Bar and Grill. It is actually a rib joint but they had good reviews for steak too. The address is in Ellicott City which is closer to Baltimore so we headed out.
We found the restaurant and had dinner. It was pretty good. We were kind of early for dinner but we didn't mind because we were seated in the dining room right away. It kind of made me laugh because all the other diners were older couples. We both ordered steaks and they were delicious.
After dinner, we headed to Baltimore. We knew where we were going but driving in Baltimore is a little confusing so we got a little lost. The concert was in the Charles North neighborhood and its kind of any artsy area so I wasn't too worried. We turned on the GPS to get us going in the right direction. We had to take a little detour around an accident and almost witnessed another one. (We have witnessed three accidents in Baltimore.)
We found the neighborhood and the concert venue, The Metro Gallery. Behind the venue there was a parking lot that said $2 parking. We parked there and paid the guy our two dollars and walked to the door. The guy said that the door wouldn't open until eight but if we showed him our tickets, he would stamp our hands and when they opened, we could go right in. I told him we didn't have tickets but that we were on the list. He asked us our names and after we told him, he said we were and checked our IDs for bar purposes. He stamped us and we walked down the block to Penn Station to stay warm.
At eight, we went back to the venue and we went in. The inside was really cool, but small. On one side, they had couches and chairs that were comfy and they had a couple of tables and chairs. In the center was the bar. They had the stage set up along the outer wall. The band merchandise was set up on a table next to the bar. We hung out on one of the chairs and people watched. After about a half an hour, the band walked in through the front door. They went to the table and started selling their merchandise. We waited a few minutes then went up to Chris and said hi. After we talked for a minute and thanked him for the tickets. A line had started to form behind us so we stepped away.
The music began at nine and the opening band was from DC and they were pretty good. Their name was U.S. Royalty. They were kind of the personification of a band. Long hair, tight pants, and leather jackets. They played for a little while and most of the audience rocked out to them. After that was Rewards. Basically it was a guy with a guitar and a girl with a synthesizer. I didn't really like it, it was too techno sounding. It made them happy, though. They were playing for themselves and the love of the music. At the end of their set, We Are Scientists got up and played a song with them. It was awesome. Kieth, We Are Scientists's lead singer and guitarist actually played the drum and Denny, the drummer, played guitar. Chris still played Bass and sang.
Then We Are Scientists started playing. It was so great! They sang their classic songs and songs from their new album, Barbara. We had a great time rocking out to the music. After they finished playing, we went over and thanked Chris for the tickets and headed home. It was a wonderful night.
