Spring Fun

As many of you may know, Jon's mom is visiting again. This is the first time she has been here in the spring so on Thursday, we headed to DC to see if we could see any of the cherry blossoms. Alas, many of the Cherry Blossoms had blown away but there were still many other blossoms in bloom. Cheryl and I were hungry when we got to DC so I suggested we go to "We The Pizza" up by Capital Hill. It is a pizza joint owned by one of the contestants on Top Chef. It was really, really good. Afterwards, we met Jon on the National Mall and walked down to Tidal Basin. Since we could see that there were no Blossoms, we decided to take a Paddle Boat ride. After the paddle boat, We went to the Tulip garden. Here is a collage of the Tulip Garden.



We went back to the Washington Monument then before heading home for the day.

Appomattox Court House

I took a weekend off from work and Jon decided that we were going to go to the Bristol Race in Tennessee. We decided to stay in Roanoke, Virginia which is about two hours from Bristol. We wanted to to visit a few sights while we were in the area and we went to Appomattox Court House, where Lee's Army surrendered at the end of the Civil War.  Courthouse in Appomattox Court House. I learned that the name of the town is Appomattox Court House but nothing actually took place in this building. This is the back of the building. Front of the Courthouse.
