Luray Caverns
Jon just had his birthday and I told him he could do whatever he wanted. He said he wanted to go to Luary Caverns, which is in Virginia near Front Royal. So the Saturday after his birthday we drove down to Virginia. It's about a two and a half hour drive. We go there around 2 and went to buy our tickets. Tickets were kind of expensive. They are $23 apiece but they have a special if you show your Giant Bonus Card, you get one half price. So we spent about $35 for the two of us. They had a group heading in when we got there so we decided to wait for the next group. We walked around in the gift shop and then got in line. They give you headphones for an audio tour. Then we went down into the cave.

Next to Discovery Point is Washington's column.
As we headed deeper into the Cavern, we saw stalactites and stalagmites and columns. Here is a picture of me inside the caverns.
This is inside the Fish Market. It is called the fish market because the water on the stalactites looks like fish.
After the fish market was Dream Lake. My pictures of Dream Lake didn't turn out that well compared to the real thing but here is a couple.
After Dream Lake,we caught our first glimpse of Pluto's Ghost.
This column is called Plato's Ghost because of its white color and the fact that it is in the direct center of the Caverns so it seems to follow you as you weave your way through the Cavern. In the early days, the discovery crew would place candles at the base of the column and that was they way the found there way through the cavern. Here is a few more picture of the Ghost.

This is Saracen's Tent. The stalactites are so thin here that they are see through.

Here is the Double column inside Giant's Hall.
This is the Seasonal Column.
This is the Stalacpipe Organ inside the Cathedral. The Organ's sound comes from the striking of stalactites. It is beautiful.
While in the Cathedral, Jon got a cave kiss.

They told us a story while inside the Cathedral about a little boy with a bouncy ball. He had been told to stop playing with it or they would take it away. He bounced in the Cathedral and it got stuck in the Stalactites.

This is the Princess Column. It is called this because the bones of a native american girl were found wedged in here.
This is the Wishing Well.
This is the Fried Eggs. Last thing on the tour.
After we came out of the cave, we visited the gift shop. Nothing in the gift shop jumped out at us. But we got our penny souvenir to add to our collection. Then we walked over to the Car and Carriage museum. Here are a couple pictures from there.
After the museum, we went to Hardee's for dinner and drove home.
