Mount Vernon
I had bought some cheap tickets to Mount Vernon online and they expired in March so we decided to go on Sunday. It was warmer and there was no more wind so we drove down to Virginia to go to Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon is across the Potomac and along the George Washington Parkway. Its not that far but you have to drive the beltway loop so it seems farther. I had read some good reviews of the restaurant there so I decided we would eat there. We found a parking spot and walked over. The shops were on the exterior of the park, which I wasn't aware of so if anyone wants to go to Mt. Vernon gift shop we can. We walked up to the ticket window and handed them our pass and they gave us our tickets. We than went into the orientation hall and watched an orientation video starring Pat Sajack. Then we were off to tour the grounds. We first went to the Greenhouse ans the slave quarters. Then we went around to see the house.

We first walked around to the back of the house. It has a great view of the Potomac.

We sat on the back porch for awhile.

Then we walked back to get it line at the front of the house. The line was kind of long and we weren't allowed to take pictures inside the home. It was very beautiful inside. After touring the home, we walked down to the dock.

We walked along to the farm afterwards. The sheep loved Jon.

We also saw a cardinal and a woodpecker.

We saw the Octagon Barn that Washington invented to thresh wheat faster and the slave house. We then took the forest trail back to the main grounds. Here we saw some bulls and some of the calvary rode by.

We walked back to Washington's tomb and the Slave Memorial.

This was the last view of the house we saw before going to the shops.

I had planned to have a late lunch at the restaurant there but it was closed for a private party. So we went to Tyson's Corner to see what they had. We ended up getting Frozen Yogurt and coming home to make pizza.
