Cape Henlopen

On June 5, we wanted to go to the beach. We decided to try another Delaware Beach so we decided to go to Cape Henelopen. Cape Henlopen State Park encompasses Fort Miles, which was a World War II Coastal Defense sight. They housed several long range missiles to protect the Delaware River from outside threats. It also has two visible lighthouses and several World War II observation towers. As you drive along the DEL MAR VA coast, you can see several observation towers in various states of repair. Cape Henlopen also has a life-guarded beach and you can drive on the beach for day use. We walked out to the beach where vehicle were lined up and BBQing. We walked along the beach and checked out the lighthouses. We visited Fort Miles and went to the top of an observation tower. We saw the Battery and went out into the ocean.

Appomattox Court House

I took a weekend off from work and Jon decided that we were going to go to the Bristol Race in Tennessee. We decided to stay in Roanoke, Virginia which is about two hours from Bristol. We wanted to to visit a few sights while we were in the area and we went to Appomattox Court House, where Lee's Army surrendered at the end of the Civil War.  Courthouse in Appomattox Court House. I learned that the name of the town is Appomattox Court House but nothing actually took place in this building. This is the back of the building. Front of the Courthouse.
