Annapolis

Annapolis is the capital city of Maryland and was at one time, also the Nation's capital. So on the second Thursday that I had off work while Jon's mom was here, we went to Annapolis. As you may have read, a few weeks ago we visited another state capital, Richmond, the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. While in Richmond, we learned that the Capital building in Richmond is the second oldest Capital building in continuous use in the country. The Oldest is Maryland's Capital building in Annapolis. We had seen the Capital building during a past adventure, but we had not yet been inside. So we decided to go inside and tour. We went in and saw the few areas that the public could access.

After our tour of the Capital Building, we went out to the Thurgood Marshall Memorial to take some pictures. There were some beautiful trees there, as well as some wonderful statues.










From here, we headed back down the hill to the Harbor. We stopped in several shops along the way. Cheryl got a couple postcards and I bought a bracelet and a necklace. It was a beautiful day and I really enjoyed looking at the boats and the water.






Nearby the waterfront is the Naval Academy. Jon wanted to see it so we headed over. The campus is fenced off and when we got to the entrance, we realized that the visitors center closed at 5.



It was about 5:15 so we walked back up to catch the shuttle back to the parking lot. We stopped in the Spice and Tea Exchange of Annapolis. It was the coolest little shop. The walls were lined with jars of spices, salts, sugars, teas, and so much more. You could go through and sniff the different spices and then purchase anything you want. We bought several different types. Jon got a popcorn mix that had cheddar cheese and pepper, as well as a Chinese pepper. I got strawberry sugar. After that, we headed back home.
